Travel Tips

With the summer travel season upon us, it is important to understand how to protect your money while traveling. Below are some tips you can use before and while you are traveling.

Let Us Know

If you are headed out of town, give us a call, and let us know where you will be traveling. This may save you the inconvenience of having your debit card declined.

Practice Good Cyber Hygiene

You will likely be traveling with your smart phone or other devices. Secure your devices and avoid a headache during or after your trip. Visit our online security and mobile security pages for tips on securing your devices. The National Cybersecurity Alliance and CISA also have useful information specific to traveling.

Clean Out Your Wallet

Taking a lot of debit and credit cards increases your risk if your wallet is lost or stolen. Take only what you may need and make sure your limits are high enough to cover what you plan on purchasing while traveling. Extra Tip: We do recommend taking two different cards; one primary and one backup.

Be Careful at ATMs

Be on the lookout for skimming devices attached to ATM machines and cover the keypad with your hand as you enter your PIN. Put your money and card away immediately after making a withdrawal. Count your money later, out of public view. Extra Tip: If you are unable to find an ATM, you can always request cash back when you use your debit card at retail locations.

Monitor Your Accounts

Checking your account is a great way to detect fraud. You can use mobile banking or online banking to check your activity and receive alerts.

Report Lost or Stolen Cards

Be sure to contact us immediately if your card is lost or stolen. Keep our number and the 800 number on the back of your card in a safe place. Extra Tip: Save these emergency contact numbers in your phone for easy access.
